Dark Lords are usually humans, or near-humans, however some Dark Lords are inhuman beings such as demons or goblins. All Dark Lords are immensely powerful capable of near cataclysmic levels of dark magic. Most all Dark lords command legions usually consisting of Necromancers, Lich lords, Vampires, undead, etc.
Quite a number of Dark Lords assume positions of power in the human world's government to subjugate and control the populace for nefarious schemes and vile purposes.
